Pop quiz: Which famous graphic novel antagonist is credited with the following quote?

"Riddle me this, riddle me that. Who’s afraid of the big black bat?"

-Cue Jeopardy music-

If you are familiar with Batman (or can use context clues) you know the answer to be the Riddler, or Edward Nigma for you diehard fans out there. The Riddler was a strange man who tried to confuse his opponents with questions and riddles. In fact, he was so dedicated to his prideful pursuit of trapping people in his riddles that he would often lose sight of his main objective in order to lure Batman and others into his mind games. Eventually, his obsession with questions and riddles even drove him to insanity.

Our theme for Elevate 2010 is ‘Riddle Me This- simple questions for a complex God.’ This theme was chosen because to a certain degree, we can all relate with the Riddler. We all have questions that we long to have answered. Some are for our friends or our parents, but many of them are for God. And if we leave these questions bottled up and unaddressed, they can easily torment us, leaving us puzzled and frustrated. Or, maybe we view God as the Riddler at times, purposely leaving us in the dark as to why He operates the way He does. This is a difficult conversation to have, but it is one that needs to happen. So, this year, we are going to give an opportunity to process some of the tough questions we all have for God. We hope to see you at Elevate 2010. It’s going to be another great year- no question about it!
