Family Loss

The Rochester College family expresses its sympathy for the loss of the following former students and employees during the last twelve months.

Former college employee Lucille Green died on May 9, 2013. Lucille began working in the college bookstore after her retirement from Pier 1 in 1979. She worked in the bookstore for 25 years.

Craig Myers died from a brain aneurism on April 30, 2013. Craig was a member of the class of 2008.

Following a five-month battle with a brain tumor, Donna (Selvidge-69) Little passed away on March 23, 2013. Donna’s husband, Ron Little, is also a member of the class of 1969.

Just two months after the passing of his wife Evelyn, Milton Fletcher died March 20, 2013. A true pillar in the history of Rochester College, Milton served as an administrator from 1961 to 1972. He returned as president in 1980 and served in that role until 1991. His son, Eric Fletcher, is a member of the class of 1970.

Former employee and member of the class of 1975, Hope (Barber) Shull, passed away on March 10, 2013. Hope’s husband, Don Shull, taught for the college from 1967 to 1978 and Hope worked for the academic dean during the 1977-78 academic year. Two of Hope’s sisters are alumni: Faith (Barber) Mann, class of 1973, and Leisa (Barber) Perry, class of 1977.

Marsha Bills, a former employee who worked 23 years in the College Bookstore, died on March 7, 2013. Marsha’s daughter, Dawn (Bills) Luxton, is a member of the class of 1977.

Former employee and member of the class of 1968, Nancy (Ashby) Dawson, passed away on March 4, 2013. Nancy’s son, Ron Dawson, is a member of the class of 1994.

Vanessa Cooper, a 2006 graduate in the Center for Extended Learning, died March 2, 2013 after battling cancer.

Bob Kirks, a member of the class of 1965, passed away on February 5, 2013. Bob’s wife, LoAnn (Sausser) Kirks, is also a member of the class of 1965. Two children, Sandy (Kirks-’87) Westerby and Suzy (Kirks, ’87 and ’03) Peper, are also alumni. Granddaughter Chelsea Peper graduated in 2012. Granddaughter Kelly Peper is a current student at Rochester College.

Former board member Dean Hoggatt passed away on January 15, 2013. Dean served on the board from 1991 to 2001. His five children attended the college: Kathy (Hoggatt-’70) Long, Kent Hoggatt (’72), Lesly (Hoggatt-’83) Brock, Jean (Hoggatt-’84) Carter, and Brian Hoggatt (’86), as well as two of his grandchildren: Ryan Hoggatt (’02) and Jenny Hoggatt (’06). Hoggatt Hall is named in honor of Dean and his two sisters.

Evelyn Fletcher, wife of the college’s fifth president, Milton Fletcher died on January 10, 2013. Milton served the college as an administrator from 1960 to 1972 and as president from 1980 to 1991.

Jim Lewis, a member of the class of 1997, passed away on November 30, 2012. Jim’s wife, Amy (Tice) Lewis, is a college employee and member of the classes of 1997 and 2008.

Ryan Woods, a 2011 graduate and member of the first cohort in the missional leadership master’s degree program, died of cancer on November 7, 2012. A video about Ryan can be viewed by clicking here.

Art Lorenz, a member of the class of 1962, died from cancer on August 22, 2012. Art’s wife, Marsha (Fletcher) Lorenz, is also a member of the 1962.

After battling the effects of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Natalie (Kilmer) Randall died on August 3, 2012. A member of the class of 1972, Natalie taught courses in Rochester College’s Center for Extended Learning and served on the Board of Trustees. Her husband, Karl Randall, is a member of the class of 1971. Her brother, Bruce Kilmer, is a member of the class of 1969.

Bob Rathbun, plant superindendent from 1986 to 1998, passed away on June 29, 2012. Two of Bob’s daughters are members of the class of 1992, Gail (Rathbun) Gonzalez and Sheryl (Rathbun) Thomas.

Suellen Cadle, a member of the class of 1981, died suddenly on June 1, 2012. Her sister, Debbie, is a member of the class of 1980.

Long-time missionary to Kenya and member of the class of 1962, Berkeley Hackett died from a heart attack on May 21, 2012. Berkeley’s brother, Jon Hackett, is a member of the class of 1966.
