The 26th annual meeting of the Christian Scholars’ Conference will be held June 21–June 23, 2007 on the campus of Rochester College in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Though his original training was in early modern British history, he has since moved to studying a wide range of contemporary topics and issues, especially in the realm of religion. He earned his doctorate at Clare College in the University of Cambridge. Jenkins has taught at Penn State since 1980. Jenkins will present two plenary addresses and be available for dialogue during the conference.
The conference planners invite submissions of abstracts, papers and proposals from all academic disciplines. Proposals need not deal specifically with the conference theme but should reflect substantive research and expect critique that encourages publication and further development. We eagerly invite presentations in the form of audio-visual media and performance as appropriate to each discipline.
The multiple track conference will feature five parallel sessions of 90 minutes duration. Specific parameters will be determined by each session’s convener, but will typically include 3-4 presentations and discussion. Others will be characterized by panel discussion or roundtables on various issues.
While Generative Leaders will conceive, recruit, and convene several conference sessions, we welcome unsolicited papers from all academic disciplines. Please submit proposals by email with a Microsoft Word file attachment to session conveners or to David Fleer at dfleer@rc.edu for review. The submission deadline is May 22, 2007. You will be notified no later than May 29, 2007 whether the proposal has been accepted for presentation. For session updates Click Here.
The conference will convene Thursday evening (June 21st) with dinner and Philip Jenkins' first keynote address. We conclude Saturday (June 23rd) at noon following worship and lunch. Session times, plenary locations, and other scheduling matters are posted and will be periodically revised.
We especially welcome Christian Scholars of Color and have stipends available for travel and registration. For more information, please contact David Fleer at 248.218.2144.
