Position Title: Distance Learning Instructional Technologist

Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to collaborate with faculty and staff to facilitate the development and delivery of online and technology-mediated courses. This position also ensures the success of the day-to-day operations of the distance learning office. These duties are summarized as such:
1. Provides leadership for faculty and staff in the effective use of new and current technologies for instructional purposes,
2. Represent the college's distance learning program to the general public, students, faculty, staff, and state organizations,
3. Support faculty in the delivery of distance learning courses by coordinating with students and other college departments--Academic Computing, Educational Media, Viewing/Listening/ Testing Center and all academic divisions; and
4. Provide timely communications between faculty, students and the college in the execution of distance learning courses.
To be successful in the role, the person must be a flexible, energetic self-starter with knowledge and experience of the web and web/video hybrid instructional design and pedagogy. This is the only full-time employee in the distance learning office providing services for approximately 40 faculty across all academic divisions and approximately 4,000 students per academic calendar year. Instructional design services are provided to all college faculty members for both distance learning and on campus courses.
Minimum Requirements
1. Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design or equivalent degree in adult learning. Degree must be conferred by employment start date.
2. Two years of experience in instructional design process and technology usage with an employer of similar size and complexity.
3. Demonstrated one year experience in HTML programming and Adobe Photoshop or equivalent. Experience may be concurrent with requirement #2.
4. Demonstrated one year experience in Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver and/or other authoring programs. Experience may be concurrent with requirements #2 and #3.
5. Demonstrated work history of providing high quality, strong customer-orientated services including: problem-solving orientation, highly-developed organization skills, strong listening skills, coordination of work effort with others and teamwork; history of coordinated work effort with extensive follow-through and follow-up, conflict resolution, and creation of user-friendly communications.
6. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrated, effective proficiency with standard office productivity software, desktop publishing software, and basic database skills.
7. Ability to work successfully in a periodically high-stress environment, handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with little direct supervision.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design or equivalent degree in adult learning.
2. SCORM course development experience.
3. Computer programming experience in web associated languages.
4. At least two years of office work in an academic setting.
5. Experience in the distance learning office of an educational institution.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions/Hours
With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office machinery. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. Due to the heavy customer service aspect of this position, it is critical to posse strong communication skills both in person and over the telephone with a large variety of people each day. This is a periodically high-stress environment requiring the handling of multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. The employee will also need to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the expectation of longer evening hours during semester start-up and Saturday events for semester start-up.
