Position:
Support Service Specialist
Education, Training and Experience:
Evidence of education based on contract requirements.
Moral Character:
Must be of good moral character.
Physical/TB Requirements:
Must be in good physical health to include a negative reaction to T.B. test.
Job Specific Requirements:
- Must be able to follow oral and written directives.
- Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be able to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the persons served.
Accountability:
The Support Service Specialist is immediately accountable to Support Service Coordinator for carrying out all job responsibilities associated with direct care to the person served on a daily basis as well as responsibilities determined by the individual plan of service.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- This position may require driving ones personal car. If this is the case, a driver’s record check, a copy of a current Michigan Driver’s License, and a copy of current insurance coverage may be required.
- Frequently bend and or lift at least 50 lbs.
- Frequently assist persons with personal hygiene. According to the contract, this may include:
- Lifting or transferring the person served
- Bathing/Showering person served
- Toileting
- Medical procedures
- All Support Service Specialists will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times (including but not limited to: treating the person served, families, contract agency personnel and co-workers with respect and dignity, protecting confidentiality, no pictures or recordings without written consent, dispensing medication if needed after training is completed, transporting only with permission and in accordance with the Vehicle Transportation Policy).
Daily Job Performance Responsibilities:
- Familiarize oneself with the person served.
- Attend initial meeting to meet the person served and establish a work schedule.
- Take complete and objective baseline data that relates to the Person Centered Plan.
- Attend required meetings.
- Implement treatment plans on a daily basis, modeling the techniques for parents/families. Encourage participation as appropriate and with time and experience supporting their independent use of techniques.
- Keep on going documentation on each program area and be able to interpret such data monthly to determine progress and/or make recommendations.
- Maintain ongoing communication by phone or in person with the Support Service Coordinator by-monthly.
- Adhere to recommendations of Independent Opportunities of Michigan, Inc. and the Person Centered Plan regarding the person served, as well as other policies and procedures.
- Give proper notification to the parents and supervisor of tardiness to and/or absence from a scheduled work shift. This same procedure follows for meetings schedules with the person served, families, supervisor or Team Member.
- Know and follow emergency procedures for fire, tornados, accidents, or other serious incidents.
- Assist parents, guardians, and volunteers in understanding and working towards normalization when in contact with the person served.
- Paperwork:
- Written daily documentation
- Written daily progress notes
- Turn in timesheets and required documentation on designated dates
- Report and document incidents as soon as reasonably possible (withn 24 hours)
- Pay Checks and Payroll Requirements:
- Support Service Specialists will be paid two (2) times per month on designated dates.
- Time sheets and documentation needs to be submitted by 4:30 pm on the specific payroll days. All time sheets must be legible and signed by the staff ad parent or guardian when appropriate. Failure to submit a timesheet by 4:30 pm on the specific payroll day will result in your time sheet not meeting the payroll deadline. The time sheet will then be held until the next payroll date resulting in a check not being issued unit the following pay period.
- Faxed time sheets and data collection must be verified by calling the office.
- Checks can be picked up at 12:00 noon on designated days at the office.

Flexible Schedules:
Part-time/Full-time positions in Macomb and Oakland counties.
Attending school is not a problem – you can work with I.O.M. during school breaks, summer, vacations and weekends.
Tuition Reimbursement:
Work at least 20 hours a week and receive tuition reimbursement.
Health Insurance Benefits available:
For full-time employees.
Work an average of 31 hours a week for 6 consecutive pay periods and you are eligible.
Vacation Time/Personal Time:
For Full-time employees.
Full-time = 12 consecutive weeks.
16 hours of vacation per year.
16 hours of personal days per year.
