The Rochester College Men's Basketball team overcame an early 22 point deficit to claim an important USCAA win over Marygrove College on Wednesday night. The first half was dominated by the Mustangs as they jumped out to a 38-16 lead behind the hot shooting from the Marygrove perimeter players. The Warriors despite a poor shooting and rebounding effort we able to cut the lead to 10 by the end of the 1st half 34-44. The Mustangs shot 42% from the field in the first half, but were able to dominate the offensive rebounding to create 18 second chance points in the first half.
To begin the second half the Warriors used a dominating defensive effort to create easy scoring opportunities. Rochester College would shoot an incredible 68% from the field in the second half as they would score 52 points in the half. For the entire game RC would shoot 65% (11 of 17)from the 3-point arch and only turn the ball over 5 times.
The warriors were led by Stephan Henning and Michael Graham in the scoring column. Henning scored a career high 26 points to go along with 7 assists and 0 turnovers. Graham led all scorers with 29 to tie his season high in points to go along with 6 rebounds. Adrian Schaffer II chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Guard Marjon Lucas provided a tremendous spark off the bench for the warriors in the second half as he created offensive continuity and defensive stops for the Warriors. He would hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 2 minutes of the game to help seal the victory.
The win was an all important win in the USCAA for positioning in the rankings as the National Tournament edges closer. The Warrior record now stands at 11-7 on the season. The next game will be Saturday when RC plays host to Great Lakes Christian College at 1:00pm at Oakland Christian High School.
