Warriors claim State Farm Classic crown with 65-61 win

The Rochester College men's basketball team won its second game in as many days to take the 2009 State Farm Classic crown at Madonna Univeristy on saturday. In game 1 of the classic the warriors defeated The University of Michigan-Dearborn 72-65. In game 2 the warriors would take on the host Madonna University for the second time this season, and once again claim the victory by the score of 65-61.

In the first half the game would be a tightknit affair that would see 9 lead changes before Madonna would take a 33-31lead into halftime. For the half, the warriors would shoot only 36% from the field while allowing Madonna to shoot 44% from the field.

When the second half started, the warriors knew that they would have to shoot better to give themselves a chance to steal a victory away from the Crusaders. Not only would the warriors answer the challenge, but they would combine a 48% field goal shooting percentage with a defensive effort that would only allow Madonna to shoot 36%. To help matters out, the warriors would dominate the rebounding game 42-32 with 14 rebounds coming on the offensive end.

Leading the way for the warriors would be the the State Farm Classic most outstanding player, Ricky Doran who scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Michael Graham would also score 14 points on the night to help lead the warriors to the win. Marques Ewell and Adrian Schaffer II would contribute 12 points and 10 points respectively. Stephan Henning was named to the all tournament team with his 7.5 assists per game for the two days.

The win raises the warriors season record to 8 wins against 7 losses. The team will take some time off to concentrate on final exams before heading to Pennsylvania to take on Penn State-Fayette on December 21.
