The Warrior men's basketball team was able to withstand a furious comeback effort from Madonna University to gain an 82-76 victory. The win improves the Warriors record to 5-0 headed into the toughest stretch of games in school history.
The Warriors built a early 15 point lead in the first half before Madonna was able to cut the lead to 6 heading into the break.
The second half mirrored the first half as the Warriors built a 16 point lead at 65-49 midway through the half. It looked as though the Warriors had the game wrapped up with 2:00 minutes remaining, but Madonna University had other plans as they began a 3-point attack that would see them cut the lead to 3 points with under a minute to play. Junior Torey Throop was able to connect on some key free throws when Madonna began fouling to stop the clock.
Leading the way for the Warriors was Senior guard Adrian Schaffer II, who scored a game high and season high 29 points. Schaffer's 29 points tied his career high points for a single game. Having another solid game for the warriors were juniors Torey Throop and Michael Graham, who contributed 14 points apiece.
The difference maker in the game for the Warriors would be their defensive pressure that forced Madonna into 20 turnovers resulting in 28 points for the warriors.
