At Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Mi., the Rochester College men’s soccer team, playing in their first home game in 3 weeks, defeated Kuyper College 3-0.
The Warriors worked their possession game in the 1st half with the score remaining at 0-0 for most of the half. The Warriors broke through late in the half on a good individual effort by junior midfielder John Wineland (Swartz Creek/Mott CC) off a pass from junior defender Chris Riley (Waterford/Schoolcraft CC).
That seemed to provide the momentum to get the Warriors started as junior midfielder Justin Sellers (Lake Orion/Oakland Christian) buried a shot past the Kuyper goal keeper off Riley’s 2nd assist of the match. After the kick off the Warriors came right back down to apply pressure on the Kuyper defense as Sellers was fouled in the penalty area and converted on the ensuing penalty for his 2nd goal of the game and the 3-0 halftime lead.
For the half the Warriors outshot Kuyper 19-0.
The 2nd half saw the Warriors applying a lot of pressure on the Kuyper goal keeper but he was up to the challenge. The Warriors were unable to convert in the 2nd half with the final score being 3-0 in favor of the Warriors.
For the match the Warriors outshot Kuyper 33 shots to 2. Senior goal keeper Steve McCune (Macomb Twp/Chippewa Valley) recorded the shutout for his 2nd shutout of the week.
The Warriors will return to action on Wednesday October 14th, when they will travel to Marygrove College for a 4:00pm match.
The Warriors record is now 8-5-0.
