Warriors back on track with 1-0 win over Bluffton

The #7 nationally ranked Rochester College Warriors travelled to NCAA Div. III Bluffton University and came home with a big 1-0 win.

In a back and forth first half which saw the Beavers create several early opportunities Senior goal keeper Steve McCune  (Macomb Twp./Chippewa Valley) made 2 point blank saves on the Beaver striker to keep the match scoreless at halftime.

The 2nd half was much of the same with the Warriors beginning to create opportunities of their own. Junior Brian Matlock (Southfield/Lathrup), on a great individual effort, notched the game winner with 16 minutes left, assisted by freshman Pete Nelson (Waterford Christian Liberty Academy) and freshman Chad Helberg (Hazel Park/Hazel Park). The Warriors were able to stay organized and hold off Bluffton as they made a push to tie the match.

The Warrior back 4 of Sophomore Chris Gerhardt (Macomb/Macomb Lutheran), junior Ben Nelson (Waterford/Christian Liberty Academy), junior John Wineland (Swartz Creek/Mot CC) and Pete Nelson, were solid in defense and beginning the transition.

The Beavers had 13 shots to the Warriors 9. McCune had 4 saves for the match.

The Warriors will return to action on Saturday October 10th when they will play host to Kuyper College at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac, Mi. at 2:00pm.
The Warriors record is now 7-5-0.
