Warriors riding high in victory over Mustangs

At Ultimate Sports Arenas in Pontiac, Mi., the Rochester College Warriors outlasted Marygrove College, coming away with a 2-0 victory for the Warriors.

In a very physical match, the two teams played back and forth in the 1st half with the Warriors scoring the first goal of the match. With 23 minutes to go in the half sophomore Kevin Chouinard (St. Clair Shores/Lakeshore) scored on an assist from Jr. John Wineland (Swartz Creek/Mott CC) from the corner, giving the Warriors the 1-0 lead.

The Warriors struck again at the 12:50 mark with freshman defender Peter Nelson (Waterford/Christian Liberty Academy) notching his 3rd goal of the season on an assist from sophomore defender Chris Gerhardt (Macomb/Macomb Lutheran). The Warriors led at halftime 2-0.

The 2nd half was a game of shifting momentum with both teams getting opportunities on goal. But, neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities, and the match ended in the Warriors favor at 2-0.

The Warriors had 17 total shots with Marygrove garnering 8 total shots for the game. The Warriors had 10 shots on goal to Marygrove’s  4 shots on goal.

Senior goal keepers Dave Ristich (Waterford/Waterford Kettering) and Steve McCune (Macomb Twp./Chippewa Valley) recorded the shutout with Ristich playing the first half and McCune the 2nd half.

The Warriors next play at Grace Bible College on Wednesday September 30th at 4:30pm.

The Warriors record is 5-4-0.
