At Ultimate Sports Arenas in Pontiac, Mi., the Rochester College Warriors outlasted Delta College, coming away with a 2-0 victory in the first game of the season for the Warriors. In a very physical match, the two teams played a back and forth 1st half that ended at 0-0. With Delta suffering a red card ejection early in 2nd half the Warriors gathered themselves and broke through with their first goal when Freshman, Peter Nelson, from Waterford/Christian Liberty Academy, scored from within the penalty area in the 25th minute, assisted by Junior, Steven Jesionowski, of Highland/Milford high school. It was Nelson’s first college match, and the goal gave the Warriors the 1-0 lead. The Warriors garnered their 2nd goal nine minutes later in the 34th minute, this time with Jesionowski scoring from the same area, assisted by Nelson for the final 2-0 score. Delta College had a total of 20 shots to the Warriors 16. The Warriors had 7 shots on goal to Delta’s 5. Senior, and first year soccer player, Steve McCune, Macomb Twp./Chippewa Valley, recorded the shutout with 5 saves on 5 shots on goal. The Warriors will host Grace College, Indiana at Ultimate Soccer Arenas, Pontiac, Mi., at 2:00pm Saturday 8/29. The Warriors record is 1-0-0.
