Host Rochester College men’s soccer team defeated to NCAA DIII Defiance College, Oh. 3-1, at their home field at Ultimate Sports Arenas in Pontiac, Mi.

The Warriors of Rochester College recovered from their Monday loss to defeat The Defiance College, Oh, Yellow Jackets 3-1 in a foul filled match.

The Yellow Jackets surprised the Warriors with their counter attack and scored early at the 6 minute mark on a ball behind the Warrior defense run onto by the Defiance outside midfielder who beat the Warrior defender and goal keeper, sophomore Brain Matlock (Southfield Lathrup), with a well placed ball to the back corner of the net.

The Warriors gathered themselves and began to play their possession game, controlling the tempo and opportunities on goal. It took 25 minutes before the Warriors were able to respond with their 1st goal of the match when sophomore Jon Rokowski (Chippewa Valley) took the ball into the left corner on a great individual effort and slotted a pass across the box to senior Ibrahim Foryoh who scored his 7th goal of the season.

Two minutes later, on a scramble in front of the goal, the Yellow Jackets committed a foul in their box, resulting in a penalty kick which senior Chris Hall (Birmingham, England), converted for his 5th goal of the season. The Warriors finished off the scoring 3 minutes later on a great combination passing play in the Yellow Jacket penalty area between Rokowski and Hall with Rokowski getting his 2nd goal of the season on the assist from Hall.

Sophomores’ Justin Sellers (Oakland Christian) and Rokowski, were consistently outstanding in their play on the day.

The Warriors outshot the Yellow Jackets 24-7 for the match with Matlock getting 5 saves with 1 goal allowed.

The Warriors record now stands at 7-5-2.

The Warriors will next battle NCAA DII Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday 10/15 at the Ultimate Soccer Arenas at 3:30pm.
