The Rochester College men’s soccer team lost to host NCAA Division III, Holy Cross College 2-1 at Notre Dame, Indiana.
The Saints were able to score early in the 13th minute of the first half off a quick counter attack. The Warriors were controlling the possession time yet were unable to turn that time into any opportunities on goal. The Saints took a 2-0 lead 32 minutes into the first half on a great back post goal, catching the Warrior defense and Junior goal keeper Dave Ristich (Waterford Kettering) out of position. The Saints led 2-0 at halftime. Ristich made 3 saves, facing 5 shots, with 2 goals allowed.
The Warriors continued to pressure the Saints in the 2nd half and were able to convert off a corner kick when Senior Trevor Wilson (Oakland Christian) pressured a Saints defender into a mistake and own goal off a corner kick from Freshman Justin Miller (Dakota).
The Warriors controlled the tempo and possession for the half but were unable to convert on their 6 second half opportunities on goal. For the match the Saints out shot the Warriors 9 shots to 8.
It was another physical foul filled match with both teams in double digit fouls.
Sophomore goal keeper Steven Jesionowski (Milford) played the final half in goal for the Warriors making 4 saves on 4 shots. Jesionowski made a spectacular save on a great set piece shot by the Saints that was headed for the upper corner when Jesionowski jumped to touch it over the bar.
The Warriors record now stands at 5-4-1 and will next play at Grace Bible College in Lansing, Mi.., on Wednesday, 9/24 at 4:00pm.
