Warriors Come Up Short Against Huntington University

Ultimate Soccer, Pontiac, Mi.

The Rochester College men’s soccer team lost to NAIA Huntington University 2-0 in the Ultimate Soccer Complex in Pontiac, Mi.

Huntington University and the Warriors played 40 minutes of back and forth soccer, with each team controlling portions of possession time. Huntington made more of their possession time for the half and for the game by outshooting the Warriors 19-9.

Huntington capitalized first 40 minutes into the match on a shot that squeezed through sophomore goal keeper Brian Matlock’s (Southfield Lathrup) hands. The Warriors were unable to counter and the Foresters held a 1-0 halftime lead. Matlock had 8 saves on 10 shots with 2 goals against for the game.

It was a physical foul filled match with both teams in double digit fouls.

The Foresters scored early on in the second half to take a 2-0 lead and played organized stifling defense to keep the Warriors off the board. Freshman Chris Gerhardt (Macomb Lutheran) had an outstanding game at left back.
