On a hot day on a neutral pitch, the Rochester College Warriors outlasted the Wayne State Warriors Club team, in a friendly, coming away with a 7-0 victory at Oakland Yard in Pontiac, Mi.
The WSU Warriors struck the first shot at goal with Junior goal keeper David Ristich, Waterford Kettering, making the save and getting the Rochester College Warriors started in the right direction.
RC gathered themselves and settled into playing their possession style of play.
Sophomore and leading scorer from 2007, Justin Sellers, Oakland Christian High School, kicked off the 2008 season by scoring his first tally of the season and putting RC ahead 1-0. Senior Chris Hall scored the RC Warriors second goal after being fouled in the box, Hall converted on the ensuing penalty kick, for the 2-0 lead.
That score seemed to relax the RC Warriors as RC took control of the momentum and scored the final two goals of the half with Senior Ibrahim Foryoh scoring his first of the year and Freshman Jamal Jones, Romeo High School, scoring his first goal of his collegiate career, making the score at half 4-0 in favor of Rochester College.
RC scored the only goals of the second half when Sellers notched his 2nd goal of the game and the season. Senior Kevin Stilwell scored his 1st of the season on a beautiful volley shot past the WSU keeper and Freshman Josh Reese, Linden High School, scored on a similar shot and scoring his first goal of his collegiate career.
Sophomore goal keeper Steven Jesionowski, Milford High School, played the 2nd half in goal making a key save on a WSU free kick. Jesionowski finished with 2 saves on 4 shots and no goals allowed. Ristich finished the 1st half making 4 saves and not allowing a goal.
The Warriors next face Grace Bible College and host Cornerstone University in the Cornerstone Men’s Soccer Tournament on Friday and Saturday 8/29-8/30.
