Rochester College traveled to Spring Arbor to face Spring Arbor University.
The Cougars came out with the victory over the Warriors 3-0, dropping the Warriors record to 7-6-7.
In a very competitive, physically hard fought match, the Cougars quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a well struck shot from around 30 yards out that eluded sophomore GK Dave Ristich. The 1st half ended at 1-0 in favor of the Cougars. Spring Arbor out shot the Warriors in the 1st half, 6 shots to 1 Warrior shot.
In the 2nd half the two teams fought back and forth with the Warriors gaining momentum and confidence trying to get the goal that would even the match. The Cougars were frustrating the Warriors with their offside trap, but also giving up opportunities in the attacking 3rd. Late in the match, with the Warriors pushing for the tie, the Cougars struck on a counter attack in the 75th minute to make the score 2-0, and demoralizing the Warrior attack. Six minutes later, the Cougars again scored on the counter attack making the final score 3-0 in favor of the Cougars.
The Warriors and Cougars each had 9 shots in the 2nd half, with the Cougars out shooting the Warriors for the match 15 to 10. Ristich finished with 5 saves, giving up 3 goals.
The Warrior co-players of the match went to junior defender Kevin Stilwell and junior striker Trevor Wilson, for their consistent level of play throughout the match.
The Warriors record is now 7-6-7. They next play Monday, 10/22 versus NAIA Concordia University, at Borden Park. Game time is 4:00.
