Rochester College traveled to Bluffton, Ohio to face the Bluffton University Beavers.
The Warriors got back on the winning track and improving their record to 7-5-6 by defeating the Beavers 2-0.
In a very competitive, physically hard fought match, with an inordinate amount of fouls on both teams, the Warriors and Beavers played to a 0-0 halftime draw. The Beavers held the momentum for most of the 1st half.
In the 2nd half the two teams fought back and forth when the Warriors were awarded two penalty kicks in a span of less than a minute.
With the game still scoreless, senior Calvin Marshall (Carman-Ainsworth) converted on a Warrior penalty kick at the 65:25 mark , giving the Warriors the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, a Beaver defender drew a red card and was ejected from the match, for handling a Warrior shot on goal. The Beaver GK rejected freshman Brian Matlock's (Southfield Lathrup) penalty kick, but the Matlock rebound attempt found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead with just under 24 minutes to play.
The slow start by the Warriors could be partly attributed to the fact that the Warriors arrived at the field 30 minutes late due to a traffic jam on Interstate 75 north of Toledo.
Sophomore GK Dave Ristich faced 14 Knight shots for the match, and made 3 saves. The Warriors managed 11 shots. A total of 30 fouls were called in the match.
The Warrior player of the match went to senior Calvin Marshall for his consistent level of play throughout the match.
The Warriors record is now 7-5-6. They next play Tuesday, 10/16 versus NCAA DII Northwood University at Borden Park at 4:00pm.
