Rochester College 5 Grace Bible College 1

Rochester College hosted Grace Bible College at Borden Park in Rochester Hills, Mi.

The Warriors improved their record to 5-3-6 with a 5-1 victory over Grace Bible College.

GBC, against the run of play, took a 1-0 lead over the Warriors in the middle of the 1st half. The Warriors continued to work their possession game confident they would recover from the early deficit.

As he has done in several games this season, freshman striker Justin Sellers (Oakland Christian) got himself loose in the box for his 6th goal of the season, on the 1st of 2 assists in the game for junior midfielder Chris Hall (UK). The game tying goal visibly relaxed the Warriors and senior defender Steve Nelson brought the ball up field from his outside back position, and beat the GBC keeper to the back post side netting, for his 1st goal of the season. The Warriors ended the 1st 45 minutes with the 2-1 lead.

GBC came out in the 2nd half determined to pressure the Warrior possession game and not allow the Warriors to play out of the back. GBC brought numbers into Warriors defensive 3rd hoping to force RC into making mistakes in their own end. RC made and in game adjustment going to the direct ball over the GBC compact defense and springing Sellers loose for his 2nd goal of the game and his team leading 7th goal of the season.

Energized, the Warriors struck again when freshman Scott Rourke (Fenton) notched his first goal of the season and his first collegiate goal, beating the keeper low with a shot that deflected off the post and into the far corner of the net. Sophomore GK Dave Ristich (Waterford Kettering), who came out of the net late in the 2nd half, scored his 1st collegiate goal of his career on a great assist from senior midfielder/striker Mike Johnson ( Flint Southwestern), making the final score 5-1.

GK Ristich faced 2 GBC shots for the match, made 1 save and gave up 1 goal. Freshman goal keeper Steven Jesionowski finished the game in goal for the Warriors facing 2 shots and making 2 saves. The Warriors out shot GBC for the match 27 shots to 4.

Warrior player of the match went to freshman defender Mike Bollan (Centerline) for his consistent solid play for the full 90 minutes.

The Warriors record is now 5-3-6. They next play Tuesday, 10/2 at Taylor-Ft. Wayne University, at 5:00pm.
