RC stands at 2-3-4

Rochester College 0 Seneca College 1

In their 1st match of the day Rochester College dropped a hard fought match to highly regarded Seneca College 0-1.

In an evenly matched hard fought contest, Rochester and Seneca both played organized in defense and attack. Each team created quality opportunities on goal, with well organized transitional attacks out of their defensive 3rds.

Late in the 1st half, Seneca was awarded a penalty kick when Freshman Warrior Goal Keeper, Steve Jesionowski took down a Seneca player on a breakaway in the penalty area. Seneca converted on the PK to take the 1-0 lead in the match.

The Warriors once again answered back with a strong 2nd half attack but were turned away by the Seneca Goal Keeper. The Warriors pushed hard for the equalizer but were again unable to finish their opportunities.

Freshman Brian Matlock finished the match in goal for the Warriors, keeping Seneca off the scoreboard in the 2nd half. Sophomore Ben Nelson, Juniors Chris Hall, James Renton, and Seniors Nick Swantek, Calvin Marshall and Steve Nelson provided a solid effort in the loss.

Rochester College 2 St. Clair College 1

In their 2nd match of the day Rochester College, in their best effort of the tournament, defeated St. Clair College 2-1. Lambton College, the original Warrior opponent, withdrew from the tournament, creating the rematch between RC and St. Clair.

In an evenly matched contest, Rochester played their best possession match of the tournament. Capitalizing on their use of time and space, the Warriors transition was a well organized build up which created their best opportunities on net, of the tournament.

Despite having more opportunities on goal the Warriors only managed to capitalize on one, as Freshman AJ Wells headed home a cross from Senior Calvin Marshall, who served the ball from the right corner of the field. The Warriors held the lead 1-0 at half.

The Warriors again played a strong 2nd half, doubling up shots on goal over the Saints. However the Saints equalized the match early in the 2nd half on a set play on which the Warriors failed to cover after the initial ball, and the Saints scored off the rebound in the penalty area box.

With the scored tied 1-1, RC turned up the pressure and they were able to get a result with a late goal by Freshman Justin Sellers on an assist from Junior Chris Hall.

Freshmen AJ Wells and Justin Sellers had their best games of the season to date. Sophomore defender Ben Nelson was strong on defense. Senior Nick Swantek was instrumental to the win playing solid at several different positions during the contest.
