Head Coach Justin Lewis announced the signing of Kim Heidger from Flushing High School for the 09-10 season. Heidger was a standout catcher on a team that won two Big 9 championships, two district championships, and a regional championship during her career behind the plate. Coach Lewis says of Heidger, "We are excited that Kim has decided to continue her softball career at Rochester. She has been battle tested in the very difficult Big 9 conference and it is those experiences that will translate well at the college level". Women compete hard in a busy weekend
Over the weekend women's softball pitcher Jessica Crook went 1-1 from the mound. Crook, a sophomore, pitched in a 5-2 victory over NCAA Division III Finlandia University and then pitched in a 0-7 loss to NCAA Division I Oakland University. The 0-7 loss was not as lopsided as it looks as Crook held the Grizzlies to 4 scoreless innings. For the weekend Jessica pitched a total of 12 innings recording 16 strikeouts with a 2.97 ERA.
Against Finlandia University the entire team played well, including a solo homerun by freshman Kara Nickell. The Warriors broke the game open with a 4 run inning that included a bases clearing double by Kristin Potter. Potter scored later on an RBI single from Amanda Crump.

Women
Despite a slow 0-7 start, the Warrior softball team is finding their stride behind the pitching of Freshman Katie Farrier. Katie got her first victory over Cedarville University, a team that beat the Warriors twice last season, with an 8-4 win. Even with the slow start the team has continued to work hard towards earning a spot in the USCAA National Tournament. With one of the toughest schedules in the USCAA the Warriors know that they need to continue to win games.
Farrier has a 3-5 record on the season and a 3.73 earned run average. Junior 3rd baseman Kristin Potter is leading the offensive attack with a .450 batting average with 3 home-runs and 4 doubles on the season. On a team plagued with injuries, Sophomore short-stop/catcher Missy Roy, who is playing on an injured foot, is providing leadership on the field and in the dugout as one of the leaders both offensively and defensively. Several players are playing out of position and doing a fine job. Freshman Chelsea Villeme, who has played first base her whole life is doing a fine job at second base. Sophomore Lindsay Nickell is filling a spot in the outfield despite being a pitcher her whole career. Doing the bulk of the Utility work is Senior Amanda Crump. Amanda has played every position on the field for the warriors, except pitcher. She was recruited out of high school to play outfield, but with her team attitude has sacrificed for the team to play other roles. This season she has played catcher most of the season.
Today's game against Cornerstone University has been cancelled due to the spring snowstorm. The Softball Warriors will play next on April 9th at Spalding University in Kentucky.

Lady Warriors Welcome 9 New Teammates
The Lady Warrior Softball Team had an exciting fall, after a busy summer of adding 9 new faces. The coaches were giving all the new players a chance to make their mark on the team and in the line up during the several fall scrimmages. While the fall season was exciting, the spring season will bring its own challenges. Things will be helped along with two players returning after playing volleyball this fall, and adding a few additional players this January. Coach Lewis was very pleased with his young team this fall saying, "The freshmen came in and immediately filled some big shoes of upper-classmen that are now gone. This easily could have been a rough rebuilding year with several Seniors gone from last years team, including a Senior Pitcher but, the freshmen truly stepped up. As a team we are really excited because we not only get two upper-classman back from volleyball but we will be adding a few transfer students in January as well". Look for the season outlook after the dust settles in on a long semester of hard work on and off the field to bring the college the best team possible for Spring 2009!
