Professor Elie Wiesel is one of the most distinguished authors and public personalities of our era. A survivor of Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps, Wiesel has authored more than fifty books and has used his position as author, teacher and storyteller to defend human rights and peace throughout the world. Wiesel has received numerous awards including the United States Congressional Gold Medal and the Nobel Peace Prize.
On August 21st, 2008, Professor Wiesel will visit Rochester College and be the speaker at an academic event that will help kick off both the 2008-2009 academic year and the college's 50th Anniversary Celebration. In addition to being an important part of our academic year, this event will also be open to the public. Wiesel will deliver a lecture entitled "the Power of Language for Reconciliation" in which he will reflect on what he has found through the years to be both the potency and impotency of language for achieving social, psychological, and spiritual reconciliation. Tickets are available to the public for purchase (Arrangements for Professor Wiesel made through the B'NAI B'RITH LECTURE BUREAU.)
