The Living God and the Drama of Discernment

Due to changing circumstances, Paula Fredriksen has had to withdraw from being a presenter at Streaming. Given her prominent place in the development of the theme of the conference, we have decided to change the focus of this year’s conference, with a hope that we can revive the Romans theme for next year. Though we regret the late cancellation, we are pleased to have Luke Timothy Johnson coming and have pulled together an exciting conference around his work on faith and discerning the work of God in the world. This is important work for those who understand the church as a community of participation in the mission of God. Church leaders often speak of discerning the leading of God, but sometimes with little clarity about what they mean by that or how a congregation might go about discovering what God’s leading might be. Johnson’s work in this area helps us realize what is at stake in this “drama of discernment.” We are fortunate that at the last minute, Patrick Keifert and Rubel Shelly have joined our program. We are excited at the new shape our program has taken and hope you will still plan to be with us.
