Hockey Team Planned for Fall 2013

Rochester College is developing a men’s ice hockey team for Fall 2013. Supporters of the project are currently in the process of raising awareness, recruiting and raising funds.

Scott Cagnet, director of extended learning operations for RC, said, “We anticipate joining Division 1 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, playing against teams from Oakland University, Western Michigan, Davenport, Eastern Michigan, University of Michigan Dearborn, among others.”

Nick Tomczyk will serve as head coach of the hockey team. Tomczyk comes to RC from Oakland University where he served as the associate head coach for the Golden Grizzlies’ ACHA Division 1 program for the past two seasons, which included: a national championship runner-up finish for the 2011-12 season, GLCHL Regular Season Championship in 2011-12 and a GLCHL Playoff Championship in 2010-11.

The hockey team will play all home games at the Troy Sports Center, located at 1819 East Big Beaver in Troy. Find out more about RC hockey, by going to www.rchockey.com. The program will be funded through a combination of fund raising, player fees and RC contributions. Anyone wishing to donate to the RC hockey program can do so by online to www.rc.edu/donate.
