RC Students Use Their Creative Talents to Produce The Shield
Joining The Shield’s staff lets students use their creative talents in producing publications and broadcasts while at the same time helping them gain valuable media experience. They’re able to participate in the complete production of various aspects of media, including print, web content and broadcast audio.
These pieces are written, edited and designed by students for the campus community. Even with no experience in publication work, students who have an interest in writing, design or photography are encouraged to volunteer for The Shield, and scholarships are available to students who work as editors or producers.
The Shield Magazine
Published twice a semester, The Shield magazine covers everything from campus activities to national news to student opinion. Written by students for students, the publication began in newspaper format 12 years ago and is now a high-quality 24-page magazine. To view a digital copy of the most recent issue, click here.
The Shield Online
Launched in 2009, The Shield website gives students the experience of writing, editing and posting web content. Different than the magazine, the website offers additional content posted in real time. Visit www.rcshield.com to view current articles.
The Shield Podcast
The latest addition to The Shield is a podcast about student news, life and events. As of this semester, students can enroll in MED1301 Broadcast Journalism to learn the skills necessary to produce radio news and feature stories.
